Might I instead propose we Europe lot claim Steam Fridays? After a busy week of complaining about the weather or eating food outside we need a way to unwind. I would suggest making it 8pm UTC (http://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/city.html?n=1440), which is GMT+0. (Just to be clear as mud, Britain is currently on British Summer Time (http://www.timeanddate.com/library/abbreviations/timezones/eu/bst.html/) which is GMT+1, so UTC makes things a little easier to follow). That way those mainlanders on even later timezones still get a look-in but things don't start so early we have to call it Steam Mid-Afternoon, and it starts late enough that American timezones would come into play as the night went on.

The fact that Dark Souls for PC will have GFWL is pretty old news, and I always suggest buying the console version and playing the PC version... ummm. that has the problem that you'll get locked out of the online components of the game, probably, which can under circumstances equal easy mode in that game. I say, "can" because there's actually a nice counter-balance for that, but mostly it's gonna be beneficial to the player bla bla bla garblarb. Game perfectly playable without online, though, it's a massively single player online game, after all, if that makes any sense.

So yeah, If you have a PS3 or 360 get the console version and play that and wait till winter when they release the Prepare to Die content as "DLC" for consoles, if you're bound to PC you'll just have to live with GFWL or no online.

Through shenanigans involving unbalanced regional pricing and a guy in the US wanting a cheap 4pack, I've acquired essentially a free copy (well, preorder) of Borderlands 2.

This has had the side effect of making me interested in playing the first game again... with a co-op partner. Absolutely necessary! Don't want to play it SP only once more. So if anyone's interested, yell at me violently and I may just reinstall it over the weekend or whenever. Can start a new character or do a new game plus with my old one, I think it was that soldier dude with the turrets and such. Preferably new character, though.

Sounds like a bit of interest in Borderlands; maybe we should have a Mass Borderlands NFP Extravaganza this weekend or next; just have several co-op games running at once and have steam chat/steam voice chat running in the background since Borderlands chat sucks.

I think we tried this once long ago but everything dissolves once you get the ability to use the cars. Then it goes from Desert Shooting Adventure to Run Each Other Over For Kicks Adventure. Which is still hilarious.

I have other friends pestering me to get this game too. It looks pretty good, with each player taking on a role (there are classes) be it piloting, spotting, manning the guns, repairing, or buffing. As far as I know it's all multiplayer deathmatch stuff, so if we have enough NPFers with the game it would just be one giant airship clusterfuck. The thing is, at $20, I don't know how many NPFers would get the game because we're cheap assholes. Hopefully it gets a good sale price during Xmas.

So Steam is spying on me. Three of my friends suckered me into getting back into LoL, and Steam was like "oh no you don't" and gave me 3 extra copies of DotA 2 to gift away. However those friends are extremely narrow minded when it comes to trying a new MOBA-type game (shortly after SC2 came out I tried to convince them to move from the SC2 user-made moba to LoL and they were adamant that LoL was terrible) so I have nobody to give these gifts to.

So I had DOTA 2 about 80% finished downloading two nights ago, and logged off. Now, every time I log back on, the download process starts again from 0% as though it's never heard of this "Doh-Tah-Too" of which you speak. I checked to see if maybe it's just picking up from where it left off, but no, the total size of the download is always the same: 2,733 MB.

My sister says she's been having the same problem while downloading Portal 2 onto her new computer, so it MIGHT be an issue with our wireless router. She says she has problems after 8pm downloading anything, but really, she and I are the only two computers using the router and there's nobody really around to be stealing our internets.

We also have the same anti-virus software, but it's never been an issue with Steam before.

Anyone have any ideas?

Stop the download then verify the files. After that is done. it should know which files are missing or not and install them correctly.

That means I can take on my final Nemesis mission, but the game says I'd need a party of 5 in order to beat it. Sonic Adventure 2 is available on Steam along with the Battle expansion as DLC. Personally my favorite modern Sonic game, and lot's of fun. I just can't wait to see if there's enough modding to earn it it's own Steam Workshop database, since there's gotta be a lot to change (Chao reskins and variants, custom maps that make the battle mode fun, replacements for Knuckle's raps, etc).

So Endless Space is free to play this weekend. I played about 15 or 20 turns of a game so far, and from my limited experience with both ES and Civ5, I think it's safe for me to say with 100% accuracy that ES is Civilization in space.

Anyway, the game seems pretty interesting, and has a stupid amount of depth (for example you can make your own race by picking and choosing your starting bonuses and negatives, starting planet type, diplomacy tendency, and other stuff that I didn't look into all that much).

I'm not going to buy it yet, going to play it some more to get a better grasp of the game and even then I'll wait until the Xmas sale unless I get super hooked. Still, if anyone wants to try some multiplayer (preferably co-op against the AI but I will go up against someone as new to the game as I am) then PM me or message me on steam.

You're thrown out into the wild by some mysterious jerkburger named Maxwell, and you have to survive (and not starve). Also I played Hidden with Doc once (and some people that I think were also relatively new to the game) and it was really fun. And then I played a few games with people who knew what they were doing and were too damn good at spotting the Hidden and it became pretty lame. So basically the game is at its best when playing with people who actually panic and don't just home in on the Hidden with mechanical precision.

And to reiterate what Doc said in his initial post, you only need the Source SDK to get the game to work, which means Half Life 2 (and possibly TF2 and Counter Strike? I forget what games give you the Source SDK so you can play mods, but I know HL2 is the main one and basically everyone has HL2) so you have no reason to play it.

And the download is only 170MB so even people with crappy internet (I'M LOOKING AT YOU MAUVE ;)) can grab it.

Also my good mouse is broken, so if we play I will be using a shitty mouse and be extra terrible, so my existing skill from already playing the mod will be nonexistent.

I managed to get it, and it's quite nice (the sound effects and music are very awesome, great atmosphere) the problem is that i have that bullshit VAC problem where almost all my Valve games lock when i'm in ANY server.

I mean, i get loggin to ANY game i have, even if my ping is high... but on Source games, sometimes it just locks on the very first few seconds and i keep getting disconnected... it's really annoying and from what i saw online, more common than it should be.

Defense of the Ancients was a Warcraft III multiplayer map that pits teams of players against each other not like the regular RTS of Warcraft but in a hero-only setting. You select your chosen hero (using various WCIII models and given cool spells and skills over top of the existing stat system of the game) and had two huge bases split evenly over a map. There were three "lanes" down which NPC units would path with towers that do significant damage on each sides' half to defend. Typically players would hang out in a lane, earning XP off these NPCs, pushing back and forth against the other players in the lane, and trying to snipe low-health heroes or take advantage of a weak lane to crush towers. And you can deny enemy XP/gold by killing your own side's units or towers when they are low. And then there's the farming in the jungles between lanes or leaving your lane to help push on another hero/lane, etc. And you buy items and junk to boost the strengths of your hero.

It's certainly a game with strategy and some fun ideas behind it, even if at times it looks like players are just staring angrily at each other behind NPC pawns that endlessly throw themselves at each other. It was pretty imaginative, especially coming out of an RTS game's map maker, and is the father of League of Legends, Heroes of Newerth, and of course the official sequel.

DOTA is rather unpleasant, in my opinion, but I know Arc and Ramary and a few others like it. Lots of us have free copies available for gifting if you want to try it, though. Valve makes sure everyone who plays it has at least six extra copies on hand at any given time.

We still occasionally play TF2 and L4D, although not in recent weeks.

I've been fiddling about in the L4D2 workshop recently and have discovered the joys that are Deathcraft II (a Minecraft-themed map with custom sounds and textures that are phenomenal), Night Terrors (a badass map with scenes from 28 Days Later, Disneyland's Haunted Mansion, LOTR's Moria, a jungle temple from Tintin and a nightmarish cityscape finale, again with amazing custom sounds), and the Raptor Survivors mod. SO I'm back to L4D2 for a bit. Raptors with machine guns is the greatest thing ever.Anyone else been workshopping much?

Funnily enough, most of the games I want right now are of the indie variety, and many of them are Slightly On Sale right now. In addition, I have gave in and bought Bioshock Infinite. So I have spare copies of Bioshock 1 and XCOM.

So Bioshock is ups for grabs for the first person who wants it, but if someone wants XCOM I am willing to trade for it, for like a 20-25 dollar game (I think that is more then fair for a game that is usually 50 bucks.)

I was going through the DotA media threads over at Facepunch and came across screenshots of conversation between some LoL player and Riot Games staff or something. I can't seem to find it [quickly, at any rate], as I'd love to have the actual lines. But as I recall it a player basically got banned for not picking the champion he was "supposed" to pick, complete with the Riot staff person coming off as having an attitude about it.

The fact that you only ever get half the total # of cards in drops (with the possibility of duplicates) with no way of obtaining more drops is absurd. Also, for F2P games, needing to spend $9 in the store for an extra drop is equally absurd.

And all this to get rank 1 of a pointless badge that requires another full set to rank up again, and an emote or profile background or useless coupon.

I'm not going to lie, I was really excited when I first heard about the addition of trading cards but the limitations on obtaining them, and the rewards for doing so, made my excitement drop to non-existant.

Check your profile on steam, then click on the phrase "LEVEL (number goes here)" at the top right corner of the screen. It should show you all the games you own which offer trading cards. Just start playing said games, and you have a chance for Steam to spit a random group of trading cards at you. I don't know what they are or what they do, but apparently now I have them.

So far I've only got Zero and Maya (x2) from Borderlands 2, and Dawn, Hestia, Fish Force and Jim from Rain-Slick 4.

Basically, buy it and play it with me. I need fresh meat. I'm at the last story mission of the game and have been looking for someone to help me beat that and a few of the tougher optional mini-bosses (Dukino's Mom, etc). Unfortunately, I'm playing Zer0 too and I don't have any of the DLC.

Its one of the challenges, if you manage to survive intersecting 4 Destroy lands and 4 Destroy creatures, all while causing damage to you, then the AI only has lands so you can keep on building up forever, testing your deck freely.

That's how i learned to stack my Troll to an easy Trample 25/20 on turn 4-5

Energy is no longer required to use alchemy. A new type of item, ‘Orbs of Alchemy,’ have replaced energy associated with alchemy. There are five orbs of alchemy in all:
- Flawed Orb of Alchemy
- Simple Orb of Alchemy
- Advanced Orb of Alchemy
- Elite Orb of Alchemy
- Eternal Orb of Alchemy
Orbs of alchemy may be purchased in unbound stacks from the Supply Depot, acquired via missions or as rare loot in treasure blocks.

Although sounds like you can use Energy to buy these orbs instead of farming for them. Same with the new Fire Crystals needed to level up items.

The Forge
Items that acquire heat will no longer automatically level up when enough heat is required at the end of a level. Instead, a new type of item called ‘Fire Crystals’ must be used within a new interface called ‘The Forge’ in order to level up your items. Fire crystals include:
- Cracked Fire Crystal
- Dim Fire Crystal
- Warm Fire Crystal
- Glowing Fire Crystal
- Shining Fire Crystal
- Radiant Fire Crystal
The Forge can be accessed in town or at any arsenal station. When an item is ready to level up, open the Forge and select the item. The item will require a certain number of a specific fire crystal to level up. However, in some cases there is a chance the forge will not succeed and the fire crystals will be lost. No heat is ever lost due a failed forging.
Additionally, players have the option to add more than the requisite fire crystals in order to improve the odds of a successful forge as well as the chance to gain a special bonus. These bonuses include:
- Heat Bonus: +25% (one level)
- Double Level Up!
- Forge Prize Box containing a random assortment of various rarities and other items (prize box and contents are bound)
Fire crystals may be purchased in stacks in the Supply Depot, acquired via missions or found as loot in treasure blocks.

So, them there Spiral Knights, quick question I'm having no luck answering with google, probably because the answer is so obvious that I shouldn't have to ask. Question being, how do I tell if my gun/sword/stick is a piercing, elemental, or shadow weapon? Is the answer "'Cause it looks like one?" 'Cause I have beginner guns that should be elemental if that's the case, but they don't seem to be wrecking slimes like they should.

At least pretty sure that's how it was when I last played. Worst case, check your weapons on the wiki.

Also pretty sure starter guns, even though they say Fire or Frost, don't really deal elemental damage, they just have a chance to proc a burning or frozen status effect.

I have heard of some issues with that, though I connected to two steam friends early this afternoon without issue.

It should work if you're synced to the latest version on Steam, and you go to Crime.net (not offline) and in the upper corner you can apply the filter to "Friends Only." Or setup your own game, set it to friends only, and invite via the game or Steam.

I'm sure there will be a bunch of week one patches to smooth things over, they've been pretty good about that so far (though I would have preferred a longer beta and more polishing before full launch).

But we should make an event of it. I'm pretty sure three or four of us have it.
